Special Education Needs Cross-Border Professional Exchange Programme (PEP) Under PEACE II 2004- 2006

Introduction

The Special Educational Needs Cross-Border Professional Exchange Programme was funded under Measure 5.5: ‘Education, Cross-Border School and Youth Cooperation’ of the European Programme for Peace and Reconciliation in Northern Ireland and the Border Region of Ireland (Peace II). The programme enabled teachers, educational psychologists and other professionals from the border counties of the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland to build on peace and stability by coming together and exchanging experiences and models of best practice.

About SESS

The role of the Special Education Support Service (SESS) is to enhance the quality of learning and teaching in relation to special educational provision. The service co-ordinates, develops and delivers a range of professional development initiatives and support structures for school personnel working with students with special educational needs in mainstream primary and post-primary schools, special schools and special classes. The SESS operates under the remit of the Teacher Education Section (TES) of the Department of Education and Skills.
