Course Description

 

The course aims to support teachers and to:

  • Define bullying
  • Learn how to recognise bullying
  • Identify victims of bullying
  • Identify long-term negative impacts for academic achievement
  • Provide specific school-wide approaches for all ages
  • Develop social emotional learning activities for students with special educational needs
  • Conduct school-wide assessment and climate surveys
  • Review procedures for investigation and follow-up activities

Expected outcomes

After attending this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Recognise the warning signs of victims and stereotypes of bullies
  • Respond to the victims of bullies
  • Teach prevention strategies to students with special educational needs
  • Respond to bullies effectively
  • Teach anti-bullying social skills
  • Report bullying incidence in school settings.

Course Overview / Content

Dr Lori Ernsperger will:

  • Provide specific strategies in order for teachers to create a safe educational environment
  • Provide specific strategies to stop bullying in schools
  • Review the statistics on bullying and assist teachers in recognising their role in bullying prevention
  • Participants will also review the role of the bystander and the impact of the bystander on bullying incidents
  • Dr Lori Ernsperger will also review reporting procedures and important documentation for teachers.
