Description
In this two day course, we examine our understanding of challenging behaviour and social skills and explore the reasons why pupils exhibit certain behaviours and have difficulty developing certain social skills. We examine strategies for influencing, minimising, eliminating and managing behaviours and discuss strategies for assessing and teaching social skills.
This course is in open to all teachers in primary or special schools who are working with pupils with SEN.
Expected Outcomes
Participants will:
- Develop enhanced understanding of approaches to minimising, eliminating and managing challenging behaviour
- Explore approaches to assessment, development and teaching of Social Skills of/to pupils with SEN

Day 2: Understanding, Assessing and Teaching Social Skills for Pupils with SEN
Information for Applicants
Participants are required to attend both days. Participants will require permission from the Board of Management to attend. Typically, substitution for this seminar will only be allowed to classroom teachers who have prime responsibility for students with a special educational need and if it is deemed absolutely essential by the principal. Refreshments and lunch will be provided.
