This is a 1 day course for Principal teachers in mainstream Post-Primary in leading and managing an Inclusive School
Anticipated Outcomes
Participants will:
- Explore current legislation and documentation pertaining to inclusive mainstream post-primary education
- Gain an overview of developments in policy
- Explore examples of best practice in teaching students with Special Educational Needs (S.E.N)
- Explore leadership models within the context of the Mainstream post primary inclusive school
- Investigate S.E.N policy based on current trends and priorities in relation to S.E.N

- Recommendations from NCSE Delivery for students with S.E.N
- Leadership and management in the context of current S.E.N Provision
- Communication, transition planning, roles and responsibilities
- Well - being in post primary schools
- Models of provision and personnel allocation
- Models of provision and effective leadership
- Tracking and monitoring of provision
- Transition and transfer of information from Primary schools
- Models of good practice - team teaching and differentiation
- Linking SEN to SSE and Lit/Numeracy
- Whole school Assessment
- S.S.E and the role of the S.E.N department
Information for Applicants
The Department of Education and Skills will facilitate substitute cover for teachers in attendance at all the above seminars and, where necessary, for Principals. Typically, substitution will only be allocated to non - substitute teachers. Payment is not available to teachers in a substitute capacity
