The Special Education Support Service is providing this series of one-day seminars which will be presented by Dr. Tom Daly, Assistant National Co-ordinator, SESS.
The seminar is designed to assist post-primary schools in developing the learning and teaching of Exceptionally Able and Dual Exceptional students. The approaches outlined in the seminar are guided by inclusionary principles. The Key Aims of the Seminar are to:
- Examine and explain the concepts of exceptional ability and dual exceptionality
- Outline how these students and their particular needs can be identified
- Describe teaching approaches and methods that will enhance the learning of exceptionally able and dual exceptional students
- Introduce the concept of metacognition and metacognitive strategies
- Suggest whole-school approaches to enhancing provision for exceptionally able and dual exceptional students.
This is a full-day course. One Principal, Deputy-principal or Teacher per school is invited to apply. Ideally, the person attending should be in a position to disseminate the knowledge and information gained in his/her school.
Registration will take place from 9.00 AM and the seminar will commence at 9:15 AM and conclude at 4.00 PM. Refreshments and lunch will be provided. Travel and subsistence will be paid at the normal rate. Substitution will be provided if it is deemed absolutely essential by the principal.
The number of places on each seminar is limited.
