Using AFLS: The Assessment of Functional and Living Skills [Primary and Post-Primary]

 

This one day course is for resource teachers working with pupils with special educational needs (SEN) in primary, post primary and special schools. The aim of this course is to enhance participants’ understanding and application of the AFLS assessment, skills tracking system, and curriculum guide for the development of essential skills for achieving independence.

The course aims to:

·         Address assessment of key non-academic content for assessing and monitoring of essential, practical, everyday skills of daily living.
·         Review the connections between curriculum strands, subject areas and AFLS™.
·         Address procedures for administering and interpreting the assessment instrument.

The course content will include:

·         A review of each of the AFLS™ content areas
·         The teaching of the administration and scoring of AFLS™
·         Enable participants to connect AFLS™ content areas to curriculum strands
·         Enable participants to interpret scores and convert these to curriculum targets for students

 

Information for Applicants

Participants will require permission from the Board of Management to attend. Typically, substitution for this seminar will only be allowed to classroom teachers with primary responsibility for students with a special educational need and if it is deemed absolutely essential by the Principal. Typically substitution will only be allocated to non - substitute teachers. Payment is not available to teachers in a substitute capacity.
