Course Description

Parents and professionals have used Social Stories™ for many years to share social information effectively with children, adolescents and adults with Autistic Spectrum Disorder and other social-communication delays and differences.

Anticipated Outcomes

Participants will:

• understand the research based rationale that supports the approach
• be able to write a Social Story™ using each of the ten characteristics 
• implement a Social Story™ at school.

Course Outline and Content

Using lecture, demonstration, case examples and activities, this one day workshop:

• describes the research based rationale that supports the approach
• presents each of the ten characteristics that define a Social Story™
• shares strategies for introducing and implementing  Social Stories™ at home or school
• enables participants to practice skills and concepts as they are introduced and to write a Social Story™
• provides positive and practical ideas for implementing Social Stories™.

Information for Applicants

This course is open to

• Teachers working in classes for student(s) with ASD in a mainstream setting
• Teachers in special schools who are currently working with student(s) with ASD
• Full-time Resource/Learning Support teachers who are currently working with student(s) with ASD

Participants will require permission from the Board of Management to attend. Typically, substitution for this seminar will only be allowed to classroom teachers with primary responsibility for students with a special educational need and if it is deemed absolutely essential by the Principal.
Typically substitution will only be allocated to non - substitute teachers. Payment  is not available to teachers in a substitute capacity
