Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS)

PECS was designed for young and preverbal children and follows eight defined stages In this system, pupils are taught to communicate a need by exchanging an image, thus helping to enhance the pupil’s communication abilities and understanding of the function of communication. The method also encourages the pupil to initiate spontaneous communication.


Pyramid UK is providing a series of 2-day workshops in Ireland.

  • Galway: Menlo Park Hotel – 12 & 13 May 2011
  • Derry: City Hotel Derry – 19 & 20 May 2011
  • Dublin: Park Plaza Tyrrelstown – 21 & 22 November 2011

Please note the following:

  • Teachers should apply directly to PECS for places on the above course. www.pecs.com
  • Places should be booked provisionally if awaiting SESS approval for funding
  • Teachers should apply to SESS for funding for the above by completing the application form via the SESS Supports Scheme.
  • The application form – ‘Individual Professional Development’ – can be downloaded from www.sess.ie/supports or from the link below.
  • Applications for funding must be submitted prior to attendance at these courses
