Supporting the Curriculum for students with Autism through the use of Apps [Primary and Post-Primary]

Course Description

 

This evening pilot seminar focuses on using iPads and Apps to help achieve curricular targets for students with ASD. It is suitable for teachers of students with ASD in Primary, Post-Primary, Special Class and Special School settings. 

Anticipated Outcomes


Participants will:

  • Be able to plan for, and use, Apps to help students with ASD to achieve curricular targets.

Course Outline and Content

  • Consider how Apps can be used to support teaching and learning in relation to the challenges associated with ASD
  • Become familiar with some iPad accessibility and management features
  • Demonstrate practical examples of incorporating Apps into our teaching in order to achieve curricular targets for students with ASDs.

Information for Applicants


iPads will not be provided – participants may bring their own and a list of the Apps which will be used is provided at the start of the event if participants wish to download some or all of these. However, having an iPad is not strictly necessary at the event.
To participate in the workshop element, participants will need a basic knowledge of how to use an iPad. Because of time constraints, the seminar will not cover technical issues relating to iPad use nor on accessibility features in any detail.
Registration is at 6.45 PM. The seminar begins at 7.00 PM and concludes at 9.30 PM, with a short break.
