Course Description

This is a half-day course for Principal teachers in mainstream Post Primary on the Continuum of Support and the Special Education Teacher Allocation Model

 

Expected Outcomes

Participants will:

  • Explore current legislation and documentation pertaining to inclusive mainstream post-primary education
  • Gain an overview of developments in policy.
  • Explore examples of best practice in teaching students with Special Educational Needs (S.E.N)
  • Explore leadership models within the context of the Mainstream post primary inclusive school
  • Investigate S.E.N policy based on current trends and priorities in relation to S.E.N

 

Course Content

  • Current trends and priorities in relation to SEN
  • Recommendations from NCSE Delivery for students with S.E.N
  • Leadership and management in the context of current S.E.N Provision
  • Communication, transition planning, roles and responsibilities
  • Well - being in post primary schools
  • Models of provision and  personnel allocation,
  • Models of provision and effective leadership
  • Tracking and monitoring of provision
  • Transition and transfer of information from Primary schools
  • Models of good practice e.g team teaching and the differentiated classroom
  • Whole school Assessment

 

Information for Applicants

This course is open to:

  • Principals in mainstream Post Primary Schools
  • Participants will require permission from the Board of Management to attend. Typically, substitution for this seminar will only be allowed to classroom teachers with primary responsibility for pupils with a special educational need and if it is deemed absolutely essential
  • Typically substitution will only be allocated to non-substitute teachers
  • Payment is not available to teachers in a substitute capacity
