Course Description
This practical seminar is intended for Special Education teachers in mainstream post-primary schools. It aims to give teachers the knowledge and strategies to recognise who may require individual planning and the skills to devise an Individual Education Plan (IEP).
Anticipated Outcomes
Participants will:

Discuss recent legislation publications pertaining to SEN

Explore the steps involved in creating an individual plan for a student

Devise targets strategies and resources to support a student within the context of a sample individual plan
Course Overview / Content

Recent legislation and publications on inclusion will be explored to set the current context

The rationale of using IEPs will be explored

The actual process of creating an actual IEP will be explored and discussed

The pivotal steps and stages of producing an IEP will be identified

Devising targets and strategies to meet the students’ needs will be explored in a practical fashion by the participants

Participants will review students’ sample IEPs

Case studies to allow participants to construct an IEP
Information for Applicants
The course is open to
- Teachers working with students with a special education need
- Full-time Special Education Teachers who are currently working with student(s) with a special education need
- Participants will require permission from the Board of Management to attend. Typically, substitution for this seminar will only be allowed to classroom teachers with primary responsibility for students with a special educational need and if it is deemed absolutely essential by the Principal
- Typically substitution will only be allocated to non - substitute teachers
- Payment is not available to teachers in a substitute capacity
