Course description – this course is designed to provide teachers with an understanding of the foundations of behaviour, models and functions of behaviour. The course will also explore the dynamics of classroom management and low level disruption and provide strategies for de-escalation.
Course Aims –
- Explore the dynamic of student behaviour
- Outline effective and practical skills and strategies to manage behaviour in the classroom
- Develop practical teaching and learning strategies to ensure predictable and consistent classroom practices
- Develop an understanding of classroom dynamics in relation to behaviour
- Outline a hierarchy of interventions for managing challenging behaviours
Course content
- Develop an understanding of behaviour and the student/teacher relationship
- Understand the crucial role of the teacher in enabling, repairing and rebuilding with students
- Be able to implement practical behaviour management strategies to promote positive learning behaviour
- Outline a hierarchy of interventions to implement with students who challenge classroom learning
