Course Description
Parents and professionals have used Social Stories™ for many years to share social information effectively with children, adolescents and adults with Autistic Spectrum Disorder and other social-communication delays and differences.
Anticipated Outcomes
Participants will:

be able to write a Social Story™ using each of the ten characteristics

implement a Social Story™ at school
Course Overview / Content
Using lecture, demonstration, case examples and activities, this one day workshop:

describes the research based rationale that supports the approach

presents each of the ten characteristics that define a Social Story™

shares strategies for introducing and implementing Social Stories™ at home or school
-
enables participants to practice skills and concepts as they are introduced and to write a Social Story™
-
provides positive and practical ideas for implementing Social Stories™
Information for Applicants
The course is open to
- Teachers working in classes for student(s) with Autism in a mainstream setting
- Teachers in special schools who are currently working with student(s) with Autism
- Full-time Special Education Teachers who are currently working with student(s) with Autism
- Participants will require permission from the Board of Management to attend. Typically, substitution for this seminar will only be allowed to classroom teachers with primary responsibility for students with a special educational need and if it is deemed absolutely essential by the Principal
- Typically substitution will only be allocated to non - substitute teachers
- Payment is not available to teachers in a substitute capacity
